Learn to fly fish

Veterans & 1st Responders, join us on May 23rd, 2026, and learn how to fly fish. 

The course is hosted by Instructor Tom with Soldiers 6. 

We will meet at 0800 at Vino in the Valley and drive down to the river. Participants will learn the basics of a fly rod and learn how to properly cast. Participants will also learn how to tie a fishing knot and how to use an indicator. 

This is a basic, 101 course but all are welcome to join. 

Instructor Tom will teach you the basics to get you comfortable to fly fish on your own. Questions are encouraged! After the course, participants will have the option to stay and fish the Rush River. 

We will have an instructor join you on the water to ensure you are using proper techniques and to be present in case you need assistance. 

Cast will have a few fly rods in case you do not own one.

Cast will NOT provide chest or hip waders. Purchasing a pair is recommended due to the cold-water temps. 

A WI fishing license with a trout stamp is required. If you cannot afford one, let us know and we will see how we can assist with a day pass! 

Cast will have flies for you to use. 

Cast will provide coffee and donuts before we start the day and sandwiches, chips and water before we hit the river to fish!

If you are bringing a fly rod, please let us know so we do not purchase an extra for you to use.
